porting xrecovery to xperia x8

INSTALLING xrecovery on your X8

On my previous post, i stated the method of installing xrecovery is the same method as the on X10, sorry ... its wrong... the only same method is the manual installation. The xrecovery installer.apk does not work with x8 and This method also works with the minis edition.

What you need;
  1. a rooted x8
  2. The 3 mod file xtracted from the xrecovery 0.1 :  xrecovery. Zip, chargemon and busybox.
  3. Root explorer

3)
Follow the instruction carefully, nothing bad will happen.

1.       Download the required file and out in your SD root folder. Extract it to the 3 file as mention above.
2.       Now, open the Root Explorer and copy those 3 file to Phone/system/bin that is in your phone memory not your SD. Press the R/O @ R/W button on the upper screen before paste.  If not you can’t move the file at all. Exit the root explorer. DONE!
3.
how to boot to recovery;
4.       Reboot the phone and press the back button repeatedly until u see the xrecovery menus. Use vol-up and vol-down to navigate around menus, Home button to select and BACK/POWER to go back to previous menu.

For the xrecovery file download visit the xda-developers.com x8
I don’t mirror other peoples work. Sorry dudes.

Now you can make backup, flash custom roms, flash custom tweak to your phone without using the Flash tool.
All the credits goes to a lot of Thanks to zdzihu and all the xda dev.

X10 get Gingerbread but what bout x10 mini and x8?

Whilst Xperia X10 owners are rejoicing on the news about Android Gingerbread heading to the headset, unfortunately it is not good news for the smaller Xperia models. Sony Ericsson has confirmed that as they need to “prioritise” their resources and thus there are no current plans for the X10 mini, X10 mini pro and X8 to receive the update. What we do know with SE is that they always seem to change their mind, so if you’re being optimistic maybe we will see it at some point down the road after all.

Sony Ericsson To Release 9 Android Devices In North America, UK Xperia Play Gets A Release Date

Sony Ericsson hit us with a bunch of hotness today. First off Android Community is reporting that Sony Ericsson plans to dominate North America with 9 new handsets. This seems like a lofty goal but with all their announcements at both CES and MWC it’s definitely possible.
Android Community is also reporting that the Sony Xperia Play will be available by the end of the quarter. (Look on TDG for some other exiting Sony Xperia Play today) It’s also widely reported that the Sony Xperia Play will launch in the UK by March 31st.
We ran this story earlier while we were at MWC where Sony Ericsson CEO Bert Nordberg talked about the importance of dominating iin the United States and that the US didn’t like to get the rest of the world’s sloppy seconds which is why the first round of Xperia Android devices weren’t big hits in the US. In fact the two mini devices the Xperia X10 mini and mini pro skipped a US release all together.
Other than the Xperia Play we know that the Xperia Arc is on the way.

installing xrecovery (Xperia X10 only)

so for this post i'll be posting How-to-install xrecovery on your xperia x10

What is xrecovery?

"xRecovery is a custom recovery console that allows you to manage backups and install ROMs, themes and applications from zip files. Other functions include the ability to wipe your phone and manage partitions. "

This is the only xrecovery that would only work with the Xperia x10i. So I don’t recommend using other app that you might find on the app market, unless you have made a study on it.  Remember! I don’t guaranty other app or method will work. You might brick you Xperia.

A special thanks to xda dev member

zoz33 for his apk installer!
Walkmann for X10 HD solution

You can get the latest xRecovery from the Xda forum. Version 0.3 is latest version during this writing that works perfectly on xperia x10 and for xperia x8 get the 0.1 version. Try to visit the xda-developers forum for the latest info on the xrecovery version and method on installing.

Requirement before proceeding,
1. a rooted xperia
2. busybox by stecricson- can be download from the market.
3. of cos the xrecovery.apk from a trusted source.

Features:

·         ADB root shell
·         Reboot
·         Install update.zip from SD Card
·         Factory reset (full wipe)
·         Wipe cache partition
·         Install custom zip
·         Backup and Restore
·         Partition tools
·         Mount/unmount partitions
·         Format partitions
·         Mount as USB Storage
·         Advanced options
·         Wipe Dalvik cache
·         Wipe battery stats
·         Fix permissions for apps (FC fix)

How to install xrecovery,

transfer the apk file to your SD then Open xRecovery installer app with a file manager and tap "Install xRecovery"

look at the picture below, follow the sequence of the picture, the xrecovery installer only help you detect the xrecovery.apk file and installed it.

after installing the xrecovery installer, let the installer look for the xrecovery.apk file that you have put in the sdcard. put it on the root of the SD to make it more easy to find.

make sure you select the "allow" button,

success!!!

Manual Installation:
- Download the apk, rename it to xrecoveryZIP
- Unpack the file, find ./res/raw folder inside. It should contain 3 files (chargemon, busybox, xrecovery.tar)
- copy these 3 files into /system/bin using root explorer (remember to remount /system rw

Notes:
Please bear in mind that it's not the regular android recovery (we cannot replace recovery image without cracked bootloader). Instead, the boot hijacking is used to start recovery mode. You still need basic files on your /system partition to use this. NEVER use the "format /system" option (it's there only to check if anyone reads this long, boring note).

This recovery is NOT tested for compatibility with app2sd! Use at your own risk.

This recovery WILL be used to flash custom roms easily.

DO NOT reinstall busybox. Recovery depends on it's particular busybox version

TESTING!!!
If you are confidence with the installation, its time to do some testing. It may sound easy, but sometime we just make mistake. So testing is required. To boot into the console, restart your phone and press the back button a few times after the white text Sony Ericsson logo appears (its the first logo that appear when you start up the phone). Once it starts (something like the following picture), use the volume-up and volume-down buttons to scroll through the menu. Press the home button to select an option and the back button to go back.

the xrecovery interface should look like this,

this guide is base on the guide from the xda forum thread.

installing busybox and verifying Root installation

What is Busybox?

"Busybox is a tool pack that brings additional handy LINUX / UNIX based commands. We need to install this app as some of these commands are needed for certain root level tasks."

that's what you get when you ask the Developers at the XDA Forum.

Installing busybox in Xperia X8 is not hard at all. You dont have to be a techgeek to do so, But the main thing is to get the phone ROOTED first. To get your phone rooted, pls follow my post before this. Then, Busybox is the Second thing you have to get, to let your phone do additional task that i cant do before. You must have Busybox installed Before proceeding to other mod on your Xperia X8.

To install BUSYBOX,

1st, Open Android Market, type on the search box Busybox. Get the BusyBox Installer by Stericsson.

2nd, after installing, open the app and tap on Install on the bottom of the app (make sure to give the Super User permission to get the app operating). Tap on the latest version of Busybox. Dont worry about the warning when you open up the application. our phone are compatible with the busybox version.

If you have a .sh file of busybox in your SD card, make sure its the latest version so that the installer would detect the busybox. If you does not have it. just tap on installed, wait till it finish downloading and installed the busybox.

then you are done.

as and extra percaution, i recommended you to install ROOT CHECKER apps. this is to verify you installed the apps correctly...

ROOT tutorial

Lately I've been quite busy with my work, so im just posting others people blog or just paste an article. There are numerous apps in the market that are related to blogging but none really work as what i want to. There's bug on posting screen shot. That just to share my main problem on updating mods that I make to my x8.

After month of exploring the android arts, I finally get to a part that I just got the sense of it but im not the master of it. There's still lots of thing to learn. And its exciting to learn and share with other x8 users.

Regarding on the Dual Touch update on the xperia X8, some say YES and some say NO. SE is busy building up they momentum with the 3 sets of the new xperia flagline so, we might as well be forgotten.    I'm sure most of the X10 owner are already satisfied with their Dual-Touch update and us might not.

So if you thinking on staying with X8 so I suggest you ROOT it to get the best out of it.

There's a lot of methods on rooting the xperia, and the easiest way is by using the SUPER ONE CLICK program.

First of all, the main thing to do is getting all the tools that are required for rooting. Its more simple than flashing a rom though. There have been minor reports on people bricking their phone cause of rooting but we cannot say it wont happened too.  I want you to understand ROOTING would cause you a warranty lost. So make your study first before rooting.

So what is rooting?
Rooting is a method of enabling the user to make changers in the non-user area. That is accessing the system in the phone, when rooted, you be able to access system file, change permission of a program, making you a Power User. If you are familiar with Window Mobile and UIQ3. than you might get what im saying.  But what's good in The Android system is the Developers has make it to work as an app so we will get a pop-up each time a program try to make changes in the main system. Kinda like a in window 7.

So how to root?

  1. Download the Super One Click program,

In the folder should look like this, there are 11 item in the folder after you unzip/unrar

And when you click on the SOC exe, it must look like this…
This is for the Donut version, if you are still using  1.6 android...

So now we've ready to start the second part,

Make sure you have make a backup of your phone. But I would recommend you to use a fresh firmware - repair your firmware(using SEUS) Sony Ericsson Update Service first. When ready, make sure the battery is more than 50%. Some would say 30% is enough, but for me, pre-caution is better … bad thing happened if the phone shutdown while in the process.

On the phone, go to

Settings/ Applications/Unknown Source -----> tick on the box

And

Settings/Applications/Development/USB debugging  ---->tick on the Box

So now we are ready to connect the phone…

CONNECT and please don’t mount the SD card but don remove the SD card. Tap on the "Charge Only".

Wait for the PC Companion to pop -up, and Open SOC with administrator in window pc.

Now can start the rooting process, click on the Root button… and wait till it say the rooting is done.
SOC will sent a notification to the phone to test the SU(SUPER USER) authorization. If you see the notification on the phone, then you are done.

The SU icon  -Super User app should look like this,
Open it to see if its access able. Now you can go to the apps market to try out app that required a rooted phone.

Unlock your Android Phone Screen with Finger Scanner

Fingerscanner is one of your best alternative for replacing your lock screen. Its not free, but its up to you to judge either its worth of buying or not. The main concept to unlock the screen is to listen and feel the 3 beeps and 3 vibrates when you press the screen with your thumb, so don believe that it truly scanning your thumb. It has a nice animation when the unlock screen happen.

In the lite version, u can skip the thumb scanning procedure by pressing the home button. to many features are lock with the lite version. The Lite version can be downloaded via the market for free.

Fishin' 2 go Lite by CyxB Games Review

Fishin' 2 Go Lite is one of my favourite app from the android market. That if you are in fishing, if ur not, than it a waste reading this review. This is the lite version. The full version cost about USD $2.25. what you get in the full version is 16 worldwide location for fishing, 80+ Lures, 100+ species of fishes to fish, and some multiple skill. U can save the fish that u catch and more in the fishing world.

Its very addictive and can be downloaded via the app market. Its kinda not-a-user-friendly interface. U have to read the HOW T-TO/WHAT'S NEW section on the starting screen if u wanna get the FISH!!! The lite version is very limited in everyway. So if u think it worth it. Go get it.
